Stallions win East Coast basketball tournament

The Greater Cabarrus Athletic Association Stallions home-school basketball teams competed in Lynchburg, Va., on the campus of Liberty University in East Coast national basketball tournament.

The boys' team won the 4A division and girls' team won the 3A division. The boys team went 2-1 in pool play, defeating St. Johns (Virginia) 83-43 then defeated the Baltimore Chargers 72-59. The Stallions then lost to CHVAA from Richmond, Va., 72-49.

The Stallions were placed in the 4A division and defeated The Heat from Tennessee 59-56 and then faced SVHS Conquers from Virginia for championship and defeated them 61-46.

The members of the Stallions are Caleb Dietz, John Clay, Andrew Kelly, Landon Holm, Matt Godley, Sam Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Nick Weaver, Randy Hansen, Mike Phillips and Coached by Robert Bland and Gary Kelly.


The girls' team went 2-1 in pool play. Their first game was against Lighthouse from North Carolina, which they lost 56-40. Then they played Albemarle Christian out of Virginia and defeated them 65-25. The team then played the Frederick Warriors out of Maryland and defeated them 44-28.

The Stallions were placed in the 3A division and defeated Baltimore Bravehearts out of Maryland 41-32.

They played Upstate out of South Carolina for championship and beat them 42-38.

The team members are Kaitlyn Holm, Alyssa Henden, Ruthann Thomas, Helen Darden, Hannah Holm, Becca Bare, Allie Long, Jessi Harris, Alayna Long, Victoria Long and coached by Mike Thomas and Sherri Holm. Hannah Holm was named to the all tournament team.
