Cannon announces new boys' basketball coach

Cannon School announced in a release that it has chosen Ché Roth to lead its boys’ varsity basketball program.

“I am thrilled that Ché Roth is Cannon’s new head coach,” said Garth Adams, Cannon's athletic director, in the statement. “He is a person of integrity, energy and passion and a coach of the highest caliber.  I am excited to work with him to provide a positive experience for our students.”

Roth has more than 15 years of experience as a collegiate and amateur basketball coach as well as an NBA scout, a role he currently serves.

"Success on the court means more than winning games," said Roth in the press release. "It’s about developing leadership and excellence in young people.”

As an assistant men’s basketball coach at Kennesaw State University (Ga.), the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Washburn University (Kan.), Roth saw his first responsibility as “developing high character, strong academic, quality young men who strive for success on and off the court.”

Under Roth’s tutelage at Kennesaw State and UMKC, eight players earned all-conference honors and several players earned national recognition. Sixteen of Roth’s former players have gone on to play professionally.

During Roth’s coaching career, 98 percent of his players graduated college, six were named academic All-American and 29 were selected for academic all-conference teams.

Roth replaces Glen Taylor, whose Cougars went 7-20 this past season.
