A.L. Brown’s boys and Jay M. Robinson’s girls won the South Piedmont Conference’s pre-conference cross country meet Aug. 28.
The Wonders were led by Max Chandler and Timmy Hall, who finished fifth and sixth respectively in the boys' 5,000-meter race at Franke Liske Park.
Robinson’s C.J. Buck won the event with teammates McCann Sheridan and David Evans finishing second and fourth, respectively.
Concord and Hickory Ridge were third and fourth on the boys’ standings.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Natalie Andrejchak won her race by more than 43 seconds.
Hickory Ridge finished second, behind Samantha McLedon’s third-place finish, while Northwest Cabarrus, fueled by Maddie Lowe’s second-place finish, was third.

Northwest Cabarrus' Maddie Lowe finished fifth in the race, advancing to states as an individual. The trojans finished sixth at regionals. A.L. Brown was fifth, Cox Mill was seventh and Hickory Ridge finished eighth.
On the boys' side, Robinson finished third behind Clifford Buck and Andrew Fried, who were sixth and seventh respectively. A.L. Brown's Jose Navarette, Northwest's Gil Gilreath and Cox Mill's Taylor Page advanced to states as individuals. Kannapolis finished seventh overall, while Cox Mill was eighth, Hickory Ridge 10th and Northwest Cabarrus was 11th.

A.L. Brown, Robinson win cross country championships
A.L. Brown won the South Piedmont Conference boys’ cross country championship, while Jay M. Robinson won the girls’ title.
The Wonder boys were led by senior Jose Navarette’s second place finish. Robinson junior Clifford Buck won to lead his Bulldogs to a second-place finish. Hickory Ridge wrapped up the boys’ top three.
On the girls’ side, Robinson’s Natalie Andrejchak, Alyssa Lashway and Brooke Johns finished as the top three, respectively, to lead the Bulldogs to their title. A.L. Brown finished second while Northwest Cabarrus was third.
A.L. Brown's Brian Landis and Robinson's Justin Gutierrez were named boys' and girls' SPC Coach of the Year, respectively.

Cross Country 3A regional championships
All of the local cross country teams participated in the 3A regional championships on Saturday at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. The Concord boys team and the Hickory Ridge girls team qualified for the state meet next weekend at Tanglewood Park by finishing in the top four. The Concord team won their first ever conference championship earlier in the season.

Larry Scaggs (A.L. Brown), Michael York (South Rowan), Lucas Baity (Cox Mill) and Christopher Ramsay (Jay M. Robinson) all qualified as individuals.
Meaghan McCauley (Jay M. Robinson), Leslie Pence (West Rowan), Emily Kinney (South Rowan), and Sierra Hagl (Northwest Cabarrus) were the girls that advanced as individuals.
Larry Scaggs (A.L. Brown), Ross Oden (East Rowan), Cole Honeycutt (East Rowan), Michael York (South Rowan), Sean Daley (Concord) were all the local runners that earned all region honors by finishing in the top 12. In the girls race, Meaghan McCauleey (Jay M. Robinson), Teal McLean (Hickory Ridge), Sierra Hagl (Northwest Cabarrus), Leslie Pence (West Rowan) earned all region honors.
