Concord, Jay M. Robinson fall in third round.

Concord and Jay M. Robinson both lost third round soccer playoff matches today, ruining the chances of a South Piedmont Conference match-up in the quarterfinals of the N.C. 3A tournament.

Robinson (20-3-1) fell to Charlotte Catholic (21-1-3) 1-0, ending a 16-game win streak. The Bulldogs were out-shot 13-3 in the contest.

Marvin Ridge (19-2-1) beat Concord 2-0 (10-8-1).

Marvin Ridge will face Charlotte Catholic in the quarterfinals.

This week marked the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs for five South Piedmont teams, four of which played against each other Friday.

The NCISAA semifinal game between First Assembly and Forsyth Country Day was postponed until tonight (Saturday) at 7:30 p.m.

Rainy conditions could affect playoff games

Langston Wertz Jr. posted on the Prep Insiders blog today about how this weeks rain is affecting the playoff games in football and soccer this week. Many soccer games in the Charlotte area have been rescheduled to Thursday, which is leaving some schools only 24 hours to get the already damaged fields ready for Friday night's football games.

Look for some of these matches to get postponed until Saturday.

Concord, Jay M. Robinson still alive on soccer playoffs

With a 4-2 upset win over Statesville, Concord moved onto the third round of the state 3A playoffs where they will face Marvin Ridge.

Jay M. Robinson also moved onto the third round with a 2-1 overtime win against North Iredell. The Bulldogs will play Charlotte Catholic in the next round.

If both teams win, they will see each other in the state quarterfinals this weekend.

Northwest Cabarrus fell to Marvin RIdge in the second round, 2-1.

Football playoff pairings announced

The NCHSAA football playoff pairings were announced Saturday and five South Piedmont Conference teams will have a chance for the state title.

Jay M. Robinson, Hickory Ridge and A.L. Brown are in the 3AA West bracket while Northwest Cabarrus and Concord are in the 3A West bracket.

Here are the first round pairings:

Class 3AA West:

No. 5 Hickory Ridge at No. 8 North Forsyth
No. 14 Jay M. Robinson at No. 3 A.L. Brown

Class 3A West:

No. 9 Northwest Cabarrus at No. 8 Concord

Two first round conference rematches should be interesting Friday. Northwest Cabarrus beat Concord 40-32 in their last meeting, while A.L. Brown beat Robinson 34-14 earlier in the season.

Playoff update: Oct. 27

The second round of the NCHSAA state volleyball playoffs are tonight. In the 3A division, Hickory Ridge faces West Iredell and Concord faces Weddington.

The second round of the NCISAA volleyball playoffs are also tonight. Cannon School faces Wesleyan in the 3A division.

Concord is also in the second round of the State Dual Team Tennis tournament, where they will face Charlotte Catholic today.

Finally, Cannon School will face North Raleigh Christian in the second round of the boys soccer NCISAA tournament.
