Concord sweeps SPC tournament

The Concord boys' and girls' teams continued their dominance against South Piedmont Conference opponents by winning the SPC tournament last Thursday.

Both Spiders team also won the regular season title this year.

The Lady Spiders faced Hickory Ridge in the final, the same team that they beat in the regular season to clinch the regular season crown.

In that earlier matchup, Concord squeaked by the Ragin' Bulls. The latest game wasn't as close. Concord controlled the game, winning 62-52.

The Concord boys faced their arch rival A.L. Brown in the final. Brown jumped out to a 12-4 lead, but the Spiders quickly came back, tying the game at 32 at the half.

The second half was back and forth until the Spiders pulled away at the end to take a 72-66 win and their fourth consecutive SPC tournament title.

All-SPC girls' team

Nyshia Hammonds (Concord), Jhemelia Edwards (Concord), Mariah Black (Concord), Jasmine DeBerry (Concord), Kelsey Cheek (Jay M. Robinson), Tabby Koerner (Robinson), Akysia Resper (Hickory Ridge), Candra Mathis (Hickory Ridge), Jasmine Parker (A.L. Brown), Kelsie Pethel (Northwest Cabarrus), Sarah Ritchie (Mount Pleasant) and Dee Polk (Central Cabarrus).

Kelsey Cheek was named SPC player of the year, while Hickory Ridge coach Jessica Kulp won coach of the year.

All-SPC boys' team

Jalan Cannady (Concord), Jacquise Moore (Concord), Griffin Templeton (Concord), LC Cooks (Central Cabarrus), Malcolm Drummer (Central Cabarrus), Bennie Deer (Central Cabarrus), Jaquese Deese (A.L. Brown), Teven Jones (A.L. Brown), Tyler Honeycutt (Northwest Cabarrus), Quentin Wimbish (Hickory Ridge), Elijah Hampton (Robinson) and Jacob Allen (Robinson).

Jaques Deese was named SPC player of the year and Concord coach Scott Brewer was named coach of the year.
