Soccer: Three South Piedmont teams advance to second round

Concord, Jay M. Robinson and Northwest Cabarrus moved on to the second round of the NCHSAA 3A soccer tournament with wins last night.

Concord won 1-0 over No. 2 seed Waddell, Northwest Cabarrus powered past Northeast Guilford 3-0 and Jay M. Robinson breezed past Southern Guilford 7-0.

Hickory Ridge lost 2-0 to a No. 1 seeded Statesville while Central Cabarrus was manhandled by a very tough Charlotte Catholic team, 9-0.

Concord will face Statesville in the second round. Northwest Cabarrus will play Marvin Ridge and Jay M. Robinson will play North Iredell.
